Empties: Color Cosmetics

These are my brief notes on facial and color cosmetics that I have either used up completely or decided to get rid of. For other types of products, see the index. My opinions are based on my own experiences and preferences. Please keep in mind that my favorites could be total garbage for you, and your favorites could be my personal nightmares. Or maybe we have the same tastes and needs, who knows

♥ = products that I would look into repurchasing

Face Primer

  • ♥ Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer deluxe sample – AMAZEBALLS. I was shocked at how effective this is. Nothing else seems to work with Armani Luminous Silk. I also seemed to plow through it quickly. I’m glad I have another sample; I’ll have to watch exactly how long it lasts to see if it’s worth the price.
  • Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer foil – Does nothing for me. I mean it might make stuff last a little longer, but it looks bad/creased so there’s really no benefit.
  • Laura Mercier Foundation Primer foil – did not have any notable effect.
  • Lorac Porefection Primer foil: Liked this but as I said about the smashbox ones, I’m not sure that my skin gets along with sillicone. To Be Determined
  • Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Sheild SPF30 PA+++ sample – Worked okay as a primer but is no good as a sunscreen. It’s impossible to use the right amount. Too little, and it’s not enough to actually be a sunscreen. Too much and either you get a thick layer that means anything else you apply looks ludicously cakey, or it clumps up and feels kinda gross and lumpy even though it doesn’t really look bad, or I don’t even know. I used it several times and the only way it looked okay was if I was using less than 1/4 of the amount of sunscreen that a person actually needs on their face. And if I have to apply a sunscreen also, there’s no point to use this product in the first place.
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer deluxe sample – Used half of it, tried it with all my foundations and BB creams. It does nothing. ….okay it might actually be an okay moisturizer, but it does literally nothing that a primer is supposed to.
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer foil – Ohhhhhhhh, so that’s why people love primers! I definitely used too much, but it made my WnW foundation look amazing, and last forever. It smooths pores, but really emphasized wrinkles/brow furrows. I’ll try using less (I have several foils) and see how that goes. Also I’m not sure how my skin feels about silicone yet. Need to use more to determine if it’s worth buying.
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer with SPF20 and Dermaxyl foil – I liked this one better, but can think of no explanation. Liked and disliked exactly the same things as the other one. If they’re basically the same, and I end up buying one, I’d buy this one for the SPF.

Foundation and Tinted Moisturizer

  • ♥ Armani Luminous Silk Foundation 3.75 sample (2)- perfect for me, purchased full size.
  • Becca Aqua Luminous Foundation fair sample – Nice try, Sephora lighting. Definitely the wrong color. Did not actually finish this.
  • Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint Mineral Sunscreen Natural BB Cream deluxe sample – The shea butter feels like it would be too heavy for my skin, but I’ve had no problems with that. I feel like I’m wasting time when I use this sunscreen. It’s tinted too dark for me, so I have to blend/sheer it out to the point that the coverage is non-existent and the SPF probably becomes negligible. Then I put on actual sunscreen, and a bunch of concealer to fix those issues. So why even bother with the Coola in the first place?
  • Dr.Jart+ BB Mate Contouring Kit 2. Neutralizing sample -This is basically just a regular BB Cream to fill in the blanks between highlighting and bronzing and to make them easier to blend, but it’s too yellow/warm/dark to be of any use for me.
  • Dr.Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 Light/Medium deluxe sample – This was a bit too gray but when blended out it worked pretty well. It wasn’t too shiny or greasy like a lot of sunscreen can be. I don’t think I’d get a full size, but I’d consider another sample, like if it was a sample choice from Birchbox.
  • Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint deluxe sample – I have no use for something so brown and orange.
  • Dr. Jart+ BB Radiance Beauty Balm foil – Didn’t write this down quickly enough and can’t remember my exact feels. I remember it’s radiant, and I was surprised that I like it. Then I realized I still needed a ton of concealer on top, unlike other BB creams I tried recently.
  • It’s Skin Babyface BB Cream Moisture – A little off in color, but it’s got SPF36 PA++ sunscreen so on days when I feel like being lazy, it works well enough. Too orange to repurchase. It also has a strong fruity scent that I didn’t mind but I didn’t love either. This is the first product in recent memory where I’ve bothered to cut open the packaging after I was sure I’d used up all of it. I know everyone says this, but damn, I have been throwing out SO MUCH usable product!
  • ♥ Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint Pearl deluxe sample – love product but color is too dark. It comes in a lighter shade, Opal, that I’d like to try.
  • Laneige BB Cushion sample – I do not get cushion products. So much effort for so little product. This sample had Dark, Medium, and Light, and none of them worked for me.
  • Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Oil-Free Foundation 10 Ivory Light sample – too smelly
  • Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ 15 Alabaster sample – The color match seemed good but the product dried up/became too difficult to use anymore. I suspect it’s too drying for me but I might pick up another sample just to be sure.
  • Missha Perfect Cover B.B. Cream No. 13 foils (3) – This matches my skin almost perfectly. It’s a little not-pink-enough, but since it’s exactly pale enough, it’s still a match. Because it matches the palest parts of my face so well, it does wash me out a bit and I definitely need bronzer to give my face back some depth and warmth. I plan to buy a full size of this after I finish all the foils.
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation Almond Milk Parfait sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation Cashew Milk Parfait sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation Chestnut Milk Parfait sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation Coconut Milk Parfait sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Liquid Foundation Hazelnut Milk Parfait sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Sketches on Water Tinted Moisturizer Adansonia sample – I think it’s a little dark/yellow, but it doesn’t matter since tinted moisturizers in general are basically sheer. I was surprised that it lasted all day on my face, and blended out well with minimal effort. Too expensive and too invisible of a product to care much about. Would use if I received another sample, but would not seek out or pay for.
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Sketches on Water Tinted Moisturizer Quercus sample – too dark
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Sketches on Water Tinted Moisturizer Sequoia sample – too dark
  • Sephora Collection Teint Infusion #10 Ivory sample – Too yellow but it blended out okay… if I’m in certain lighting. Unfortunately in most lighting the color of my face is pretty far off from the rest of me. The formula worked for me. I’d buy this if it was offered in a pinker tone.
  • Supergoop! CC Cream Daily Correct Broad Spectrum SPF 35+ Sunscreen Fair to Light deluxe sample – Worked fine, not perfect but acceptable color even though the self-adusting-ness makes me suspect it just turns orange later. I’m not sure. No complaints, but would not purchase due to price.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15 Ivory – It was closer than anything I’d tried before it, but it was still too warm and too dark.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15 Fair Beige sample – slightly too dark, and it’s more coverage than I prefer these days. The same texture that used to feel fancy and luxurious now feels thick and gross to me.
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin 1.0 sample – UD shades that end in .5 are cool and .0 are warm ones. The fact that this was matched to my cotton-candy-pink face and blended in just fine is making me question reality. Half of the times I wore it, my skin was near-painfully dry. The other half, it was fine. This whole experience was just confusing.
  • Wet n Wild Coverall Cream 315 Fair – When I bought this last winter, it was too dark. It was too dark all summer. Somehow this winter, it’s just the right color??? Regardless of the color match, the formula doesn’t last very well on my face, and I’ve come to prefer more liquid formulas. The biggest problem with this foundation, though, is that it’s a mess. It gets all over the lid, all over the tube, and it has leaked profusely every time I’ve traveled with it. It’s a great foundation for the price, but I’d rather pay more and be happier. Would repurchase on an extreme budget or in an emergency, like if I was traveling and all my makeup got lost or stolen.
  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat le Teint Foundation sample – Excellent formula for my skin, and surprisingly pigmented (seriously, it surprised me every time I used the sample – it’s very concentrated). BR10 is usable but still pretty yellow for my pink face. If there were a significant price difference between this and Armani Luminous Silk, I’d consider this, but it’s only a couple of dollars. Might as well stick with the pinker LS.
  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch No. 1 foil – I thought this was a highlighter, but it’s not. Or maybe it is, but it’s not pale enough? There’s no shimmer or luminosity like I expect in a highlight, and it’s not paler/brighter than my skin. I used it as a concealer, and it worked about as well as a buildable foundation would work.
  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch No. 2 foil – same thoughts as above. 1 and 2 are clearly very different shades, but they look exactly the same blended out. I did half my chin in one and half my chin in the other, and as soon as I blended there was no difference between the two.

Concealer

  • theBalm Time Balm Concealer Lighter than Light – Too yellow, and it always creases. Always.

Highlighter

  • ♥ Rouge Bunny Rouge Highlighting Liquid Sea of Clouds sample jar (2) – I was hoping this would be terrible because it’s so expensive, but I get compliments nearly every time I wear it. Luckily it swatches almost identically to my other liquid highlighters (Lorac and Benefit).

Contour

  • BareMinerals Ready Foundation R250 deluxe sample – too yellow, too dark
  • BareMinerals Ready Foundation R310 deluxe sample – Obviously a medium shade won’t work as a foundation for me, my intention was to use it as a bronzer. I gave it a fair shot, but it tends to make me look dirty instead of sunned. It’s too cool to be a good bronzer and too warm to be a good contour.
  • Life’s Entropy Contour Stick Neutrino sample – Too dark/warm for me
  • Life’s Entropy Contour Stick Proton sample –  so easy, so blendable, so perfect, so cool-toned like an actual freaking shadow. I already own the full size.
  •  NYX Powder Blush Taupe – color doesn’t work for me, gets filmy as fast as you can think about it. (Mine was purchased in 2013 or 2014. The shade has been reformulated since then)

Bronzer

  • BareMinerals Ready Foundation R310 deluxe sample – Obviously a medium shade won’t work as a foundation for me, my intention was to use it as a bronzer. I gave it a fair shot, but it tends to make me look dirty instead of sunned. It’s too cool to be a good bronzer and too warm to be a good contour.
  • Dr.Jart+ BB Mate Contouring Kit 3. Bronzing sample – nonono. It just made my face look dirty. I thought maybe it would be workable as a bronzer (i.e. for looking like I got some sun, instead of as a contour) but it doesn’t at all. It’s too warm to even use as that!
  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat in 4.5 foil – I thought I could try using this as a bronzer or contour, and I totally can’t. It’s hilariously the wrong color.

Blush

  • Aromaleigh Sylph Mineral Blush Protea sample baggie – I’m getting better at applying powder blushes. I do like Aromaleigh’s blush formula, but this particular color isn’t one that I love. It’s fine, and I did finish the sample, but I don’t want more of this color.
  • Benefit Benetint deluxe sample – Absolutely worthless on my lips, tastes disgusting, fades quickly, barely shows up. Awesome on my face. Easy and fast and looks very natural. It collects foundation and powder though, so I don’t think I’d ever buy a full size. It would get too gross. I didn’t fully finish this, but I’m counting it because I used as much as I could until I felt it was too contaminated. If I get another sample size, I’d have to remember to wipe the brush clean every time I use it, which really takes away from the speed and ease of use :/
  • Darling Girl Cosmetics Soft Focus Blush Cheeky sample baggie – This was a free sample, so I used it as a learning blush to figure out how to get better at loose indie blushes. My application improved, but this is still much brighter and more pigmented than I prefer.

Powder

  • Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder Buff deluxe sample – I chose this as a GWP even though it would probably be too dark and warm for me. It was.
  • theBalm Sexy Mama powder – Used it up, then repressed it, then used it up again. It’s excellent at setting and mattefying, and great for most fair-to-medium skin tones. It’s a little too yellow for me. Obviously it was reasonably close and I was able to use it all, but I did not repurchase.

Brow

  • Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz – The color is good for me, but there’s barely any product in this. It’s not even a month’s worth of eyebrows for me, and I don’t even do anything close to power brows. Expense aside, the first wiz I had broke inside the tube, and the packaging of the other one fell apart every time I took the cap off. Disappointing product, disappointing packaging, and disappointing price. I’ve learned my lesson this time. Will not repurchase, even on sale.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse Medium Brown – Too red/warm.
  • Wet n Wild Pencil Liner Taupe – fades so quickly. Woth the $1 that is costs, and not a penny more.

Eyeshadow Primer

  • Darling Girl Cosmetics Primped and Primed primer – This DOES work, but the formula is either too waxy or too dried up. It’s really difficult to blend in and I feel like I’m stretching my eyelids out like crazy just applying the primer. It gets wax all up in my brushes and makes them dirty really quickly, and the waxy texture means I have to drag my skin around a bunch to apply and then blend out the primer. It works really really well as an anti-creasing primer, and it’s really cost-effective, but I’d rather pay more for the ease of application from Too Faced.
  • Julep Blank Canvas Mattefying Eye Primer – This primer is actually really great at preventing creasing and I would totally repurchase it if Julep changed the packaging. The current design makes it almost impossible to access most of the product, so after about seven uses, it seems like you’ve used it up. I used a serrated kitchen knife to saw open the Julep packaging, and scraped the product out. Once I had depotted it all, it was clear that I had puh-lenty left. It dried up before I could finish all of it, but I was able to get several extra months(!) of use.

Eyeshadow

  • Elf eyeshadow matte black single pan within a palette – Crap quality. There is so much good black eyeshadow out there, this has no business even existing.
  • Elf eyeshadow neutral colors 32-pan palette – These metallics are powdery and I plow through them faster than any other eyeshadow I’ve used. I think that’s why I keep going back to them – not because the eyeshadow is anything special, but because it’s so satisfying to completely empty a pan. The pigmentation of the mattes is underwhelming, especially the darker ones. Good for the price, but not great; I definitely got more than my money’s worth.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal Barely Branded – Creases. I cannot wear eyeshadow without primer because it will crease, and I can’t really wear primer with this. Also primer kind of defeats the point of the super-easy-fast application of cream shadows in the first place.
  • ♥ Tarte emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow Slate – LOVE this. So fast and easy, perfect color, and shockingly it does not crease. It was getting old and dried up though. Had to toss it. I think this has been discontinued, but hopefully Tarte comes out with more cream shadows soon.

Eyeliner

  • Benefit They’re Real Pushup Liner deluxe sample – It’s good (no, really – it looks good once it’s on and it stays put) but it’s such a pain in the ass to use. Either everything in the tip gets dry/crusty and you have to waste a bunch every time you use it, or you have to use the little orange stopper plug to “reseal” it every time, which makes a mess both when you plug it up and when you unplug it later. There’s a lot of room for improvement, although this sample is actually an accurate representation of the product (as opposed to the total garbage single use sample).
  • Elf Studio Cream Eyeliner Black – worked fine but not quite as smudge-proof as the Sephora one. Tossed because it was several years old.
  • Julep Ink Gel Eyeliner – Extremely moldy. There’s a reason they don’t sell it anymore.
  • ♥ Julep Eye Glider Rich Brown – This is one of my favorite formulas of eyeliner. It’s soft, long-lasting, and one of the few eyeliners that doesn’t transfer to my eyelid. The only reason I destashed this is because it was a backup backup. I still have one backup. Ridiculous, I know.
  • Sephora Kohl Expert Eyeliner Perfect Brown – I have softer darker brown eyeliners that I prefer. I only reach for this one in the hopes of someday using it up. But it’s so hard that I can use it for a week and it still won’t need to be sharpened. Destashed, because I’d rather use one of the products that I enjoy.
  • ♥ Sephora Waterproof Smoky Creme Eyeliner Black – The product that taught me eyeliner doesn’t have to smudge. Magical.
  • Stila Smudge Stick Lionfish – Destashed because it was a backup that I’ll literally never get to. Even if I do finish the original (which I like), I wouldn’t repurchase it because I’d rather have something less bronze/warm.
  • Stila Smudge Stick Stingray – Destashed because it was a backup that I’ll literally never get to. I like this, but I’m not sure if I’d repurchase it or not. It’s a favorite formula of mine, but the caps do tend to crack, leaving the product to dry out too soon. I haven’t had this problem with any other eyeliners.
  • Ulta Automatic Eyeliner Golden Eye – poorly pigmented. Barely shows up unless I use a lot of pressure and really drag it across my eye. On the bright side, the cap is the same as the Stila Smudge Stick caps, but not as prone to breaking. I was able to use the cap from this to save a Smudge Stuck from drying out.

Mascara

  • ♥ Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara mini – No complaints for this. If the price was right (same price as, or cheaper than, other favorites), I would repurchase.
  • ♥ Benefit They’re Real Mascara deluxe sample – Liked, would repurchase. Seemed to dry up faster than I expected, but it could be in my head. Would only buy mini, not full size.
  • Guerlain Maxi Lash sample – I like, would repurchase samples. This is like my 3rd.
  • Guerlain Maxi Lash sample – not as impressed as I was originally, but I think this has been open too long. I have one more unopened sample. I’ll make a note of how that is right when I open it.
  • ♥ Julep Go Big Mascara – Not too wet, not too dry. The brush is an excellent shape that doesn’t encourage clumping. Go Big and Length Matters were designed to work together as layering mascaras. I haven’t tried LM, but GB definitely layers well. One layer is an easy low-drama natural look and layering brings the more dramatic look that I usually prefer, without clumping.
  • Mally Volumizing Mascara – I had two and gave away my backup. This was fine for a week or two but it got really clumpy really quickly. I could keep using it, but it’s just so much work to make it non-clumpy, and then my lashes are covered in a super thick layer or mascara and it looks spidery, ugh. Just ugh, too much work when I know there are dozens of easy mascaras out there for me.
  • ♥ Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Volumizing Mascara deluxe sample – Seriously waterproof, was resilient even against my cleansing oils. Offers a better-than-natural-but-not-quite-dramatic look.
  • ♥ Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara deluxe sample – Great! Full lashes without being too wet, Have a backup. Would purchase again.

Lip Primer

  • ♥ Make Lip Primer sample – Tossed because it was a non-seal-able sample that dried out. This works amazingly and prevents feathering of even the worst offenders (talking about you, Life’s Entropy Blackbody!) I’ve purchased a full size.
  • Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Liner Clear – I thought it was fine, if lackluster, until a friend gave me Milani’s clear liner. Maybelline makes an attempt, but Milani actually works.

Lip Color and Balms

  • Benefit Benetint deluxe sample – Absolutely worthless on my lips, tastes disgusting, fades quickly, barely shows up. Awesome on my face. Easy and fast and looks very natural. It collects foundation and powder though, so I don’t think I’d ever buy a full size. It would get too gross. I didn’t fully finish this, but I’m counting it because I used as much as I could until I felt it was too contaminated. If I get another sample size, I’d have to remember to wipe the brush clean every time I use it, which really takes away from the speed and ease of use :/
  • Benefit Ultra Plus Lip Gloss Dandelion deluxe sample – Does nothing for me. It’s not moisturizing and doesn’t really give color so I never bother wearing it. Destashed.
  • Bite Beauty Mix & Mingle Lip Mini Poppy/Scarlet – No strong thoughts on the colors, but the lipstick is so very creamy that they both bleed/feather all over the place. Too soft. Requires a primer, clear lipliner, application with a brush, and a lot of luck. Way too much effort.
  • ELF Mineral Lipstick in Barely Bitten, Rosy Tan, and Ripe Rose – Too old. Rosy Tan had mold spots on it, and I bought them all at the same time. The packaging on two had come unglued and they all smelled strongly of crayon.
  • Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss Child deluxe size (about half the full size) – Unattractive on its own but works well to sheer out other intense lip products. Tossed because it’s old. Apparently it’s supposed to smell like vanilla? Mine smells like plastic. Fantastic packaging – I wish all lip gloss came like this.
  • Julep Lipstick Wink mini – Basically invisible. Bought because I thought it would be the same formula as the Paris and NY lipstick trios, but they are unscented. Unscented, uncolored lipstick is worthless. Going to give to my niece because they are cute and age-appropriate lipsticks, and she likes tiny things.
  • Korres Lip Butter Glaze Wild Rose – Too opaque for this sort of applicator; it’s more like a liquid lipstick or sticky gloss.
  • Life’s Entropy Lip Theory Derivative sample – Tossed because it looks so unflattering. It’s too pale and makes me look like I have no upper lip, and the tone is weird.
  • Life’s Entropy Lip Theory Enzyme sample – Tossed because it looks so unflattering. It’s too pale and makes me look like I have no upper lip, and the tone is weird.
  • LuMESH Hydrating Lip Gloss Sadie (I think… it was pink) sample – The peppermint oil in this is intense. The gloss itself is kinda sticky (booooooo), the color isn’t anything special, and most importantly it makes my lips get covered in tiny bumps like I’m having an allergic reaction. To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any allergiesor sensitivities. The bumps happened every time I tried this gloss. Peppermint oil is a known irritant (it’s frequently used in plumping lip products), so I assume it’s the high concentration here that’s causing a problem. This product has nothing going for it, and plenty of strikes against it.
  • ♥ MAC Lustre Lipstick High Tea – I quite liked this. Last time I used it, it smelled more like plastic than vanilla. I got it in a swap, so I’m not sure how old it is. Too old
  • MAKE Silk Cream Lipstick Magnolia sample – Wears off quickly. I like the color; it’s a spot-on non-sheer version of Urban Decay’s Sheer Ladyflower.
  • MAKE Silk Cream Lipstick Maraschino Cherry sample – I already know that the formula fades quickly. Tossed because I have other red lipsticks that are better.
  • Makeon Lip Manicure 30 Seconds Pure Peach – Stila Venizia dupe. Looks really bad as it wears off if you don’t let it set/dry properly. Stila isn’t as finicky and smells better, so I tossed this one.
  • Mally Lip Magnifier Frisky Fuchsia – I can do an occasional fuchsia, but the problem here is the packaging. The cap of this came off if I brought it anywhere. I don’t appreciate my pockets and purses all turning hot pink inside. I can’t have products betray me like that.
  • ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick Kitty – Somehow the shade Dawn to Dusk, which is browner, looks 100% more flattering. But add a hint of pink to it, and it’s awful. This is like concealer lips, but it’s even less flattering.
  • Mountain Ocean Lip Trip SPF15 – I bought this on a trip, when I didn’t have any lip balm and wanted to get the “best” thing for my lips. So much regret. Sure, it has SPF, but I hesitate to call it a balm. It’s more like a pocket-sized candle that for you to rub on your lips if… well there’s no reason, really. I could use it up as a lipstick primer since it’s literally just a stick of wax, but it’s several  years old and looks like it’s getting discolored around the edges (or in the center, I’m not sure which is the original color). Time to toss it.
  • Notoriously Morbid Mystic Matte Liquid Lipstick Hello My Name is Trash Boat deluxe sample – I tried, I tried so hard to make butthole color look good on my lips. Can’t. Apparently other people can though, because it’s been renamed “Soothsayer” and moved to the permanent line.
  • NYX Matte Lipstick Forbidden – Too orange-toned to actually give me concealer-lips, but close. It’s unflattering to wear on its own, because of the way it wears off/gets in lines. I was using this to lighten up lipstick that was too dark. I’d rather use Life’s Entropy’s Lip Theories to do that and just get rid of this lipstick that can’t be worn on its own anyway.
  • Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Melange – Gave away because it looks so unflattering. It’s too pale and makes me look like I have no upper lip, and the tone is weird.
  • Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Lip Gloss Clearshine foil – Feels nice and lasts a while, but it smells really gross – sugary with a hint of chocolate, and …chemical? I know, that’s vague as fuck. But, like, it’s just really disgusting and then they added this sweetness to hide it and it doesn’t work. The scent fades pretty quickly after application, but there’s still the taste: tangy and mildly metallic.
  • Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Lip Gloss Sheer Pink foil – I stand corrected, the terrible taste must have been something else on my face yesterday. The gross scent + gross sweetness intended to cover the underlying grossness is still here though. Blech.
  • QTICA Intense Lip Therapy Balm – is basically Carmex. It reminded me of Carmex in every way. I have other lip balms that I actually like, and since it’s taking me forever to get through them I decided to pass this on.
  • Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm Midnight – I love the color on me but it emphasized any dryness or lines in my lips. So wear it with the balm, you say? But then it doesn’t last or stain.
  • Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter Sugar Frosting – Received as a surprise extra in a purchase. Not a color that I ever wear.
  • Stila Lip Glaze Amaretto deluxe size – dislike color, sticky
  • Stila Lip Glaze Dazzleberry deluxe size – Kept this one much longer than the others because I like the shimmer in it. But it’s the kind of raspberry color that I hate on myself. I don’t hate hate the product, but the only reason I ever reach for it is in an effort to finish it – not because I actually enjoy the product.
  • Stila Lip Glaze Passionfruit deluxe size – dislike color, sticky
  • Stila Lip Glaze Persimmon deluxe size – I hate wearing these, if I wanted to wear this color on my lips there is 0% chance that I’d pick this product to create the effect.
  • Stila Lip Glaze Wildberry deluxe size – sheer, sticky
  • theBalm Stainiac deluxe sample – I have other stains I like better, and don’t make my lips tingly then numb
  • Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Sheer Anarchy sample – Fun cool bright pink. Love the feel and wear, and got compliments whenever I wore it. With Julep’s lip primer, my lips were still stained pink 10 hours after application. Not planning to buy it because I own similar bright pinks but I’ve become a great fan of this formula.
  • ♥ Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Sheer Ladyflower sample – fully intend to purchase even though it’s basically lip balm. Love the formula and color. UD Sheer Ladyflower v. MAKE lipstick in Magnolia: exact color dupes. UD feels amazing on, wears off quickly in the way that balms do, leaves a stain behind (either due to pigmentation or just because of stickiness), fades nicely, had no feathering issues. MAKE feels/smells more lipsticky, can be easily built to opaque, seems to last longer in the way that lipsticks do, swatch rinsed off with a drop of shampoo. possible feathering.
  • ♥ Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Sheer Shame sample – Oh dang, if I’d used this before Sheer Ladyflower, I probably would have bought this instead. Love it so much. It’s redder than Sheer Ladyflower and pinker than Tarina Tarantio Floriculture; those are the closest dupes I own. It’s not different enough on my face to warrant a purchase now, but when my collection is a little smaller I want to buy this. Perfectly flattering sheer berry, comfortable like a balm, and doesn’t settle into lines.
  • Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Sheer Walk of Shame sample – this color is just awful on me but I adore the formula.
